A Professional Caribbean Woman
As I named this blog it suddenly dawned on me, the ambiguity of the term "Professional Caribbean Woman". Certainly I am referring to our ever increasing numbers of highly educated, ambitious professional women. However, in writing the the phrase I also realize that being a Caribbean Woman is a profession in and of itself.
The science and art of balancing that ever increasing complexity of being a Caribbean Woman. Our role as boss, mentor, mediator, wife, mother, auntie, friend, sister, lover, nurse, counsellor, teacher, guide, manager, accountant etc. demand a set of competencies and skills that suggest that by our very nature as Caribbean Women we are professionals. As a professional Caribbean Woman I intend to give you a glimpse of my life through this blog, by recounting moments at different stages of my life. To date, I have been both a high level professional and a stay at home mother, a business owner and a public servant, a single parent and a married woman, a student abroad and a professional returning.... just to name a few. The stories I tell are all my real experiences but from different times and as such may not always follow a chronological order. However I hope my fellow professional Caribbean Women can recognize themselves in my experiences and remind us all through your comments that we are not alone.
